FGW is keen to help ┬áByres Road and the associated Lanes to maintain their position as a vibrant retail destination, whilst taking into account residents’ needs and the special historical context of the area.

Following the nomination of Byres Road for the Academy of Urbanism’s “Great Street Award” in Summer 2011, when FGW and Glasgow City Council worked together devising the Supporting Presentation, we founded the Byres Road Improvement Group together with other interested players – Glasgow University, West End Festival, etc.

A clear lack was a Traders’ Association to provide a coherent marketing and lobbying group; BRIG has therefore been an enabling catalyst in the foundation of BRTA.

Meanwhile, Glasgow City Council has been working with BRIG and others to commission a Place Evaluation study to identify changes which could be made to the “public realm” – making the street a more attractive place for visitors (and residents!).
